Spring, where has the year gone.

Mildura airport continues to be the dynamic operation it has become
since corporatisation in 2009.

We are moving ahead rapidly with the finalisation of the detailed design
of the runway overlay and extension and expect to invite formal tenders
for construction within the next few weeks.

This will be a major project by any definition and we will import
approximately 40,000 tonnes of crushed rock and bitumen for
the overlay alone.

A construction site will be established on the airport grounds, material
will be stockpiled and an asphalt batching plant will be constructed to mix
asphalt material for the overlay.

With Spring officially here, we are approaching the end of our tree
planting programme for the Airport grounds and have planted in excess
of 500 new trees and shrubs, carefully selected to provide a food source
for small birds and bees that are important to the environment.

We have also seen improvements made to the traffic flow into the
terminal precinct with the installation of a new round about.

Plans are coming together for a full Airport emergency exercise
that will be held at the end of September.

That’s all for spring, till next time.
